Sammie Mees, DC, grew up in Marlin, Texas, a small town southeast of Waco. She graduated from Marlin High School in 2001 and pursued her certification as a dental assistant at Texas State Technical College. Dr. Mees worked in the dental field for over 10 years and loved getting to know patients. Her true passion became the importance of patient care. She decided to go back to school to become a Doctor of Chiropractic. While at Texas Chiropractic College, she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Human Biology within her first four trimesters of the program. She served as a student representative on the Board of Regents and was President of the Ambassador Organization. Dr. Mees graduated from Texas Chiropractic College in August 2018. She is certified in Dry Needling and FAKTR (an instrument assisted soft tissue technique). Dr. Mees is an active member within the Texas Chiropractic Association, currently serving as the Membership Committee Chair and District 8 Vice Director. TCA recognized Dr. Mees with the 2021 Rising Star Award, 2023 Young Chiropractor of the Year, and 2025 H. Ford Johnson Membership Award. Meanwhile, Texas Chiropractic College honored her with the 2022 TCC Alumni Trailblazer Award. Dr. Mees is a wife of 23 years to her high school sweetheart, Ben, and a mother to their 14-year-old son, Brady. She and her family both live in Georgetown. Dr. Mees enjoys hunting with her boys, taking vacations, and being surrounded by her family and friends. How long have you been a TCA member and why did you join TCA? Almost 11 years! I have been a TCA member since I was a chiropractic student. What is your favorite thing about being a TCA member? 100% the camaraderie and support! If there is anything I have questions about, there is always someone there to help. I always say this feels like a second family of mine, because it truly is. I love and respect the docs in this community we have. It feels so rewarding to be a part of something so great! Why did you decide to become the Membership Committee Chair and what do you hope to accomplish with this committee? There's always this joke about being "voluntold" within our leadership team and it was simply just that, lol. But honestly, I wasn't chosen to be chosen. The incoming President last year, Dr. Don White, knows my drive and the passion I have for our profession after seeing my accomplishments with the Next Gen Committee. He said he needed someone as Membership Chair that was able to do great things. My plan is to support this committee by having monthly meetings and hold our districts accountable. I am sure you have heard the expression "It takes a village" and it absolutely does. Everyone must do their part! My overall goal is to grow, engage, and retain the organization’s membership base by creating value, fostering community, and improving the overall member experience. Who has been the biggest influence in your chiropractic journey? Still to this day, my mentor, Dr. Dawn Schwab! Since interning at her office, she has always been there for me. What’s something about you (a fun fact) that few people know? This is a tough one as I am an open book, lol. Ok how about this...I love Dr. Pepper and I can skin a deer with no problem! Anything else you’d like to share? To the chiros who are not TCA members, please consider joining. Why would you not be a supporting member of your own profession? If you have questions, please reach out—I would be more than happy to talk to you :)
