Originally from Kingwood, Kyle Fish graduated with honors from the University of Houston - Downtown with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Marketing. Kyle currently attends Texas Chiropractic College and serves as President of the Student Texas Chiropractic Association (STCA) club. Kyle’s first experience with chiropractic was in Peewee football, and he’s been a big believer in the science ever since. His goal is to help all athletes become the best they can be and to serve his community. After graduating from TCC and becoming a licensed chiropractor, Kyle is very excited to continue his education and grow with all that the TCA has to offer. He hopes to aid in the advancement of TCC’s student club so that every student has the ability to become the best chiropractor they can be. How long have you been a TCA student member and why did you join TCA? I joined two years ago because some of my friends asked me to go to an event. I had no idea that it was going to open the door to such an amazing organization. As soon as I realized the TCA was here to support me and my success, I was hooked. What is your favorite TCA event and why? Definitely Texpo. It is great to be around the best chiropractors in Texas, and they are so incredibly welcoming. Everyone is willing to take time to talk to you and help you in any way possible. You learn so much from all the different seminars and the NextGen event really gives you confidence about your next steps as a chiropractor. Why did you decide to lead the STCA club at Texas Chiropractic College and what do you hope to achieve in your role? After attending some of the TCA events, I realized how big of an impact the organization had on the profession. There's a lot you don't realize you need to be prepared for after you graduate and everyone involved with the TCA wants you to succeed. I decided I wanted to lead the STCA because I saw the importance of being a part of this organization and the value it adds to your overall success. My goal is to grow student membership, because there is so much more that we need to know that we don't learn in class and the access to mentorship from doctors is invaluable. The more students we can get involved, the better the future of the profession will be. What led you to pursue a career in chiropractic? My bachelor's degree is marketing and I spent ten years doing sales and marketing in the oil and gas industry. I hurt my back doing squats in the gym and went to see a chiropractor for the first time since high school. I had forgotten how incredible going to a chiropractor was. As I recovered from my injury, I remember sitting in the office thinking to myself that this is what I want to do. I realized my life could have so much more meaning and purpose by helping others everyday. Later that afternoon, I emailed TCC and figured out what I needed to attend school and the rest is history. Who has been a key influence as you begin your chiropractic career? There are so many people who have helped me along the way, it is hard to pick one. What’s something about you (a fun fact) that not many people know about you? Most people know that I am an avid ice hockey player but most don't know that I also like to do competitive eating competitions. I will be defending my title as Houston's Eggnog chugging champion in December. One day I hope to compete in the Nathan's Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest.
