Without a doubt, Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. It’s a time for family, friends, and great food, but, more importantly, it’s a time to reflect on the blessings that life has bestowed upon us. As a chiropractor, I am so thankful I have a rewarding career where I can make a real difference in the lives of my patients, one adjustment at a time! I am especially thankful for the Texas Chiropractic Association, which exists to protect, preserve, and promote chiropractic. Every licensed Texas DC should know that the rights they currently enjoy were earned – not given – and made possible by their colleagues and friends from the TCA. It still blows my mind how much TCA has achieved for the profession, just over the past decade. It’s hard to fathom that our rights to diagnose, treat nerve-related conditions, and perform chiropractic acupuncture were in the hands of the Texas Legislature and the courts, and were nearly lost. Not long ago, a chiropractor in Texas couldn’t be a majority owner in an integrated clinic. Recently, Washington, Oregon, and Idaho have been dealing with insurance carriers not paying for active and passive therapies, but TCA had the foresight to get an insurance equality bill passed in 2019. Need proof of what TCA has accomplished? Check out the list of recent TCA wins! Thank you, TCA, for all that you have done for me and thousands of Texas chiropractors. We owe you! As your TCA President, I want to acknowledge the following individuals and organizations that make what we do possible: ♦ TCA leadership team – TCA is a volunteer-led organization and relies on a small percentage of chiropractors who devote countless hours to advance the cause. I am so grateful to have Vice President Dr. Andrew Oteo and Secretary/Treasurer Dr. Korey Rose on my executive team. And I have some much respect for the men and women who serve on our TCA Board of Directors, state committees, and in district leadership roles. You are amazing! ♦ Texas chiropractic colleges – A big thank you to Dr. Bill Morgan and Parker University and Dr. Sandra Hughes and Texas Chiropractic College for being our true partners. We appreciate both Parker and TCC giving us access to students and alumni to spread our chiropractic message, for showing up at TCA Legislative Day in big numbers, and for their ongoing support. ♦ TCA Official Partners and Affiliate Members – These companies support TCA year-round, exhibiting and sponsoring TCA conferences and events. At a time when budgets are getting tighter, they invest in Texas … and you! Check out our corporate supporters and thank them by giving your business. ♦ Statecraft – TCA is not the biggest organization with the biggest budget, but pound for pound, we have one of the finest lobby teams in Texas. Since 2015, TCA has passed 11 pro-chiropractic bills, as well as defeating potential legislation that would have harmed chiropractic – largely due to the efforts of Statecraft and our Legislative Affairs Committee. Kudos to Josh Massingill, Kaden Norton, and David Mansdoerfer … thank you for working so hard for us! ♦ TCA staff – A big thank you Executive Director Jeff Jenkins and our dedicated staff, both current and past, for all that you do behind the scenes. I have been involved in the Texas Chiropractic Association for a few decades – as a kid when my father, TCA Past President Dr. Dale White Jr., was in state leadership and now as the leader of this association. We would be nothing without our members. Thank you for choosing to be part of the TCA community! Please encourage your fellow DCs to join and get involved. Enjoy the holidays with your loved ones and see you at future TCA events! Don White, DC TCA President
