Abbott Proclaims October ‘Chiropractic Health Month’ AUSTIN, TX—The Texas Chiropractic Association (TCA) is proud to announce that Gov. Greg Abbott has proclaimed October 2025 as Chiropractic Health Month throughout Texas as part of a national initiative to spread awareness of chiropractic care. “Promoting a healthy lifestyle is integral to our overall physical and emotional health, and protecting the health of our spine fosters excellent movement. Ensuring a health spine also improves circulation and sleep, making the maintenance of our musculoskeletal health a primary concern of Doctors of Chiropractic Medicine,” Gov. Abbott said. “A leading cause of disability and widespread factor in opioid addiction, back pain and musculoskeletal conditions are linked to chronic pain and a significant reason patients seek medical attention. Consulting with chiropractic experts can help Texans lead healthier lives, free from pain, while reducing the risk of worsening health conditions. “Good nutrition and ergonomics, along with lifestyle modifications that include movement, are critical to ensuring optimal musculoskeletal health and well-being. Chiropractors spend hours in continuing education to keep current on best practices, emerging technology and non-invasive treatments to ensure proper spinal health,” Gov. Abbott added. “Each year, the month of October is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of musculoskeletal health and the role chiropractors play in keeping us healthy and safe. At this time, I encourage all Texans to protect their musculoskeletal health by exercising regularly and consulting a chiropractor to prevent injury, maintain healthy habits and strengthen their spine.” In Texas, TCA partners with the American Chiropractic Association (ACA), along with Parker University and Texas Chiropractic College, in celebrating National Chiropractic Health Month (NCHM) in October. With a theme of “Get Started with Chiropractic,” doctors of chiropractic nationwide will raise awareness of how taking a non-drug approach to pain initially may help you to avoid prescriptions later and get you moving in the right direction, back to your life and the activities that matter most. When it comes to common musculoskeletal conditions such as back, neck and joint pain and tension headaches, getting started with chiropractic – compared with starting other types of treatments – may help patients reduce or avoid the need for prescription pain medications down the line. Research shows that people who start with chiropractic treatment for back pain have a significantly lower risk of requiring an opioid prescription later. While opioid prescriptions are down nationwide, opioid overuse disorder (OUD) remains a serious public health problem in the United States. That is why starting with non-drug therapies for pain is a strategy supported by evidence-based clinical guidelines from the American College of Physicians, the CDC and the World Health Organization, among others. In addition to receiving an official proclamation from the State of Texas, TCA expects dozens of cities across the state to issue their own proclamations in support of chiropractors and the thousands of patients who choose chiropractic care. TCA urges every chiropractor in Texas to participate in this awareness campaign. For more information about Chiropractic Health Month, visit www.chirotexas.org/chiropractic-health-month.html.
