Devin Pettiet, DC, is a native Texan, born and raised in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Dr. Pettiet earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a master’s degree from the University of North Texas. It was his passion for helping people and his personal experiences that led him to chiropractic care. Dr. Pettiet began seeing a chiropractor at an early age, because his mother, a chronic headache sufferer, understood the value of chiropractic care. Over many years, Dr. Pettiet was treated for a multitude of sports injuries and a fairly severe motor vehicle accident that threatened his ability to continue to play baseball, a sport that he loved. He has been a firm believer in chiropractic treatment ever since. Dr. Pettiet graduated from Texas Chiropractic College in 2005 with a Doctorate in Chiropractic and a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Biology, and he has never looked back. Dr. Pettiet opened Tomball Chiropractic Spine and Rehab Center in 2006. His joyful attitude toward life and chiropractic care echoes off the walls of his office, and Dr. Pettiet likes it that way. However, he’s serious about chiropractic, which is why he got involved in leadership in the Texas Chiropractic Association. Dr. Pettiet has served in a number of district and state roles, rising to TCA President in 2018-19. He was named Young Chiropractor of the Year in 2015 and, this year, was honored with the prestigious Keeler Plaque, in addition to winning the Legislative Award and Board of Directors Award. He lives in Tomball with his wife, Allison, and three children. How long have you been a TCA member and why did you join TCA? I became a TCA member shortly after graduating from Texas Chiropractic College. I got active in TCA five years after graduation. I took my membership to the next level in 2014, when I was asked by (TCA Past President) Dr. George Aubert to step into the role as State Affairs Committee Chair. What is your favorite thing about being a TCA member? For me, it’s the relationships that I've built over the years with wonderful and caring doctors who have a passion for preserving, protecting and promoting chiropractic in Texas. How did it feel to win this year’s Keeler Plaque and what does the award mean to you? The one word that most everyone who has ever received the Keeler Plaque would use to describe that moment would be "humbled." My appreciation for winning the award comes from knowing all of the amazing doctors who received it before me and the tremendous things that they have done for the profession. Why did you serve as TCA President and why should other Texas chiropractors serve in leadership roles within TCA? I felt called to do more. Chiropractic is an amazing profession. Chiropractors play an integral role in the health care of Texans on a daily basis. People today would not have the quality of care they do if chiropractors had not stepped up and fought for access to chiropractic. Who has been the biggest influence in your chiropractic career? That's a hard one. Early on, Dr. George Aubert from Tomball was the catalyst for me becoming active in TCA. Over the years, I have found it so easy to be inspired to serve this profession. (TCA Past Presidents) Dr. Tyce Hergert and Dr. Max Vige took my interest in advocacy to the next level and put me in a position to push chiropractic forward. What is your top professional accomplishment so far? I'm happy to say that this is also a difficult question to answer. Adding diagnosis in statute to the Chiropractic Act. Fighting for our ability to continue to diagnose and treat neurological conditions. Making is legal for chiropractors to co-own medical entities. We have had so many incredible legislative and legal victories. The list is long. What’s something about you (a fun fact) that not many people know about you? There is nothing fun about me. I am all business, all the time. I live, breathe, and eat chiropractic. Sometimes my seriousness can be hard to take, but I make no apologies. God bless America! God bless the TCA!
