Jason Helton, DC, owns and operates Helton Chiropractic, serving the Lubbock community for nearly two decades. A 1998 Parker University graduate, Dr. Helton was voted “Best of the West” five years in a row. He is Lubbock’s first chiropractor certified in Kennedy Decompression Technique for treatment of bulging and herniated discs, is nationally certified in Non-Surgical Decompression through Parker University, and serves on the International Medical Advisory Board on Spinal Decompression. Dr. Helton has been actively involved in the Texas Chiropractic Association and was recently elected to his second term as TCA District 3 State Director on the TCA Board of Directors. He was voted TCA District 3 Doctor of the Year by his colleagues in 2016. How long have you been a TCA member and why did you join TCA? I’ve been a member of TCA for 17 years. I joined after learning from TCA Past President Dr. Jorge Garcia about how much the TCA does to defend our ability to practice in the great state of Texas. What is your favorite thing about being a TCA member? I love the camaraderie. Too often we feel like we’re on our own little islands of practice. TCA functions let me reconnect with friends and colleagues who I love and respect. How does it feel to return as TCA District 3 State Director and what do you have planned for your district in the next year? I’m honored to be able to serve my colleagues and the profession once again. Ten years of extra practice experience will help me better serve my district. My goal is to bring district 3 closer together as a group. More events, more connections. My support team of Dr Monty Scott as Vice Director and Dr Abel Ramos as Secretary/Treasurer are eager to help. What is your favorite TCA event and why? I love the West Texas Conference here in Lubbock. It feels like a family reunion every year and the speakers are excellent. You can’t beat the ability to get all your hours in one place and one time literally in your backyard. Why did you become a chiropractor? I injured my back playing football in the eighth grade. I tried many different options for pain but had limited results. My parents took me to a chiropractor when I was 14 years old, and I couldn't believe how much better I felt after being in pain for over a year. After an auto accident in college, I had the opportunity to be treated by an excellent chiropractor and that experience gave me the push to pursue chiropractic. I've now been a chiropractic patient for over 30 years and have treated my three children since they were born. Our body has the inborn intelligence to be healthy if allowed to function normally. That's what I'm here to do: help people live their lives by restoring normal nerve function. Who has been the biggest influence in your chiropractic career? Too many to name! The folks at AMC (Aligned Mentoring for Chiropractors) taught me how to be a chiropractic businessman and Dr. Eric Kaplan and Dr. Perry Bard taught me how to better manage myself and be excellent in delivering quality care. Our current TCA President, Dr. Todd Whitehead and TCA Past President Dr. Tyce Hergert are my innovations gurus. All these and more have helped me become what I am today. What is your top professional accomplishment so far? Being named Best of the West Chiropractor five years in a row has been by biggest achievement. What’s something about you (a fun fact) that not many people know about you? I still want to be a rock star when I grow up. I love playing an electric guitar turned up to 11 and jamming with a band.
