The 88th Texas Legislative Session officially kicks off next month, but the biggest day of the year for Texas chiropractors is Thursday, February 16. TCA Legislative Day – our premier advocacy event – returns for the first time in four years. TCA Legislative Day is the largest of its kind in the nation. In 2017, more than 600 chiropractors, chiropractic students and faculty from Parker University and Texas Chiropractic College, chiropractic patients, and supporters stormed the State Capitol in Austin to promote access to chiropractic care for all Texans. Two years later, in 2019, participation was close to 500. “You’ve seen the photos of hundreds of chiropractic advocates on the Capitol Steps on the TCA website and social media,” said TCA President William Lawson, DC, an Austin-based chiropractor. “There is power in numbers, and everyone noticed chiropractic’s presence at the State Capitol, including state legislators, other healthcare professions, and even our adversaries. I was so proud of Texas chiropractors for showing up and making their voices heard loud and clear.” The robust turnout for TCA Legislative Day was the springboard for key legislative victories, including preserving the right of Texas chiropractors to diagnose and own integrated practices. TCA needs you at TCA Legislative Day to continue our momentum to grow chiropractic in the Lone Star State. Our goals are to secure support from state senators and representatives for TCA’s legislative agenda and to educate our elected officials about chiropractic. By signing up for TCA Legislative Day, you will get the opportunity to advocate for your profession and tell your story. After a brief orientation to learn about TCA’s legislative priorities and the plan for the day, you will join your teams in meetings in the offices of your senator and representative. There’s no cost to participate, and TCA will provide breakfast and lunch. You’re also invited to be in Team TCA’s group photo at the Capitol. “I’ve been to TCA Legislative Day several times, and it’s probably my favorite TCA event,” said Korey Rose, DC, chair of TCA’s Legislative Affairs Committee and a chiropractor from New Braunfels. “You are there representing TCA and the profession. It’s important work, but it’s also empowering and fun to spend the day with your fellow doctors, students and people who love chiropractic.
