After studying Health and Exercise Science at University of Oklahoma, Dr. Oteo became involved in functional exercise and biomechanics research. Dr. Oteo graduated from Parker University and is now Vice President of the Parker University Alumni Board of Directors. He is also an active member in The Colony Chamber of Commerce. His chiropractic background and emphasis on public health, has led him to his role as a public health servant as a result. He encourages and coordinates efforts to provide spinal health education in schools, clinics, businesses, while also in other community settings. Dr. Oteo also volunteers his time and talents in developing legislative action programs to ensure access to chiropractic services for veterans and underprivileged families. Dr Oteo is also a leader in the Texas Chiropractic Association, serving as the District 5 State Director on the TCA Board of Directors and chairing the association's Public Relations and Communications committee. What’s your biggest (or one of your biggest) professional accomplishment(s) so far? (Besides being named the 2022 Texas Young Chiropractor of the Year), I consider the amazing team that I have constructed in my office to be my greatest accomplishment. It is a blessing to truly love going to work every day and my team is absolutely world-class. If you could choose anyone as a mentor, who would you choose? John Wooden (Head Basketball Coach, Emeritus, UCLA) hands-down! He passed away in 2010, but his coaching and life principles are legendary. How do you define success? I think John Wooden has the absolute best definition of success I have ever heard and can’t improve upon: “Peace of mind attained only through self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to do the very best of which you’re capable” How long have you been a member of TCA? 9 years as a DC, but I joined TCA as a Tri 1 student at Parker University Why did you join TCA? I remember coming to TCA events as a student because there was free food… but as I stayed and heard more about the organization it became something that I realized was vitally important to stay involved with! When you’re not working, how do you enjoy spending your time? I love spending time hanging out with family and teaching my kids to play the drums. What’s something about you (a fun fact) not many people know? I’m an ordained Christian minister and have performed 4 wedding ceremonies. What did you want to be growing up? An astronaut…. But I settled for a chiropractor because I don’t like heights… or math What’s one item you can’t live without? My laptop died a few weeks ago and at that moment I decided to buy 2 laptops so I would always have a backup from this point forward. Leveraging technology is a bit part of how I am able to stay so productive. What was the last book you read? Antifragile by Nassim Nicholas Taleb What was the first concert you ever attended? Silverchair at the Bomb Factory in Dallas! (Circa 1996) What are you currently binge watching? Cobra Kai! (*Karate chop as I type this*) What’s one thing — either industry/work-related or not — you learned in the past month? How to post on TikTok (You have to keep up with the times! Lol) This one was a bit outside of my comfort zone, but that’s the only way to grow…. But don’t expect and dance videos from me anytime soon! What’s one skill you’d like to develop or sharpen over the next year? I am focused on becoming a better leader and mentor (both personally and professionally) and walking closer with Christ on my journey. If you had to eat one meal every day for the rest of your life, what would it be? My wife’s bone-in tomahawk steak If you could trade places with anyone for a day, who would it be and why? Whoever is laying on a beautiful beach right now at this very moment for obvious reasons! What characteristic do you admire most in others? Patient persistence What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve ever received? SW(X4) = Some Will, Some Won’t, So What? Someone’s Waiting What do you love most about TCA? I have been blessed to be a part of many organizations within chiropractic, but this is one of the hardest working groups of docs I have ever met. The culture of leadership and action is absolutely inspiring to me and has helped me become more successful in practice. What’s your favorite TCA event and why? TEXPO!! It’s always such a great time getting together with chiros from all over the state to talk shop, catch up on their lives, and celebrate.
