After the last legislative session, House Bill 2059 required Texas Occupations Code Chapter 116 require that all new applicants and license renewals complete a training course on human trafficking starting September 1, 2020. This will be in addition to the continuing education hours required by the Board. The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is responsible for approving this training, not the Board. As of now, HHSC has not yet posted any approved courses. The new law does require that at least one approved course will be free of charge. According to HHSC’s website, the free course should be available sometime during the Summer of 2020. You can check HHSC’s current information at the Texas Human Trafficking Resource Center. We hope to make this new requirement as painless as possible for our applicants and licensees. As we get closer to September 1, 2020, we will update this information as soon as we know anything new.
