Presented by the TCA to recognize a recipient specifically from, or serving the people of a rural area, the award is named for P. A. Willmon Jr. DC, a member of the TCA since he first began practicing chiropractic. He served as TCA State Director for District 3 for nearly a decade and was chair of the TCA mid-winter seminars for 23 years until 2003. He was also an active member of many civic activities and political campaigns. Selected as Young Chiropractor of the Year in 1981 he was presented the President’s Award in 1989, and recognized with the Keeler award in 2003. Born in Spur, TX, in 1941, Willmon grew up on the family farm at Afton, TX, and was active in 4H and FFA. He raised show sheep, pigs, rabbits, chickens and heifers. He and his siblings hoed cotton in the summer and pulled cotton in the fall. He decided to become a Doctor of Chiropractic when he was in the fifth grade after his older brother graduated from TCC in 1949. After high school he attended Texas Chiropractic College in San Antonio and graduated with the last class to graduate from the San Antonio facility in 1965. Dr. Willmon passed away in 2009.
