The 88th Texas Legislative Session is entering crunch time, with key deadlines coming up over the next few weeks. Good news, though! The outlook for TCA’s pro-chiropractic agenda is positive, with many of our key bills moving through committees. Last week, I had the privilege of testifying in support of SB 2171 (Alvarado) alongside a Texas Trial Lawyers Association witness. SB 2171 would allow chiropractors to offer expert testimony on causation in chiropractic malpractice cases. This commonsense bill is advancing through the legislative process, and we hope it will become law soon. While many of these bills may not seem major, they are part of TCA’s overall strategy of leveling the playing field for chiropractors and creating greater access to chiropractic care for all Texans. It’s a big sacrifice to spend the day at the State Capitol advocating for the profession you love. I want to thank all the Texas chiropractors who have stepped away from their practices for a day to represent their profession. You are champions of chiropractic, and TCA salutes you! Stay tuned for legislative updates in the next weeks. I want to personally invite you to celebrate our (future) legislative victories by attending Chiro Texpo ’23, our TCA state convention on June 23-25 at the Renaissance Dallas Addison. While you are registering, please make sure you grab your ticket to the President’s Gala. Consider yourself officially invited! Register for Chiro Texpo ’23 today! Let’s make this year’s TCA convention epic. While on the subject of legislative wins and advocacy, I want to recognize the efforts of our TCA Legislative Affairs Committee, anchored by Chair Korey Rose, DC, and Government Affairs Coordinator Don White, DC. Drs. Rose and White and the entire legislative team have done a phenomenal job working closely with our hard-working lobbyists from StateCraft, Josh Massingill and Kaden Norton. Now I have a big favor to ask of you. Because April is CDI Month, I strongly encourage you to contribute to the Chiropractic Development Initiative. CDI funds TCA’s advocacy, legal defense, and positive PR initiatives for the chiropractic profession. When you donate to CDI, it pays for our lobby efforts as well as legal bills in the chiropractic acupuncture lawsuit that will go to trial in August. Join the exclusive 100 x $100 CDI club, make a one-time donation to our #movetheneedle CDI campaign, or call the TCA office at (512) 477-9292 to set up your donations. TCA must ramp up our fundraising, which has dropped considerably since our landmark “nerve” victory the Texas Supreme Court in 2021, and we’re counting on you! TCA appreciates you being a member and supporting our efforts to strengthen chiropractic in the Lone Star State. We are nothing without you! Hope to see you at Chiro Texpo ’23 this summer in Dallas! William Lawson, DC TCA President
