As you know, the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, to be a pandemic. While we have never experienced an event like this in our lifetimes, we believe that the chiropractic profession can be leaders in their communities on this issue by providing information based on facts, not fear. This public health crisis has forced federal, state and local governments to take major actions, including school district and college closings, bans on large gatherings, etc. With the growing number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Texas, many Texans have been told to practice social distancing and work from home. As your state association, TCA believes it is our duty to keep you informed at this time, and we are doing everything we can to provide you with tools you can use to be the preferred health care resource your patients and community need. Consequently, TCA has postponed all March events, including the District 9 meeting in The Woodlands and TCA Tour of Texas events in Corpus Christi and Pharr/McAllen. Chiro Texpo 2020 With the rise of recent confirmed cases of COVID-19 infections in Texas, TCA is closely monitoring the situation and following the lead and recommendations of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). As of today, March 16, Chiro Texpo 2020 is still scheduled for June 12-14 at the Embassy Suites Frisco. TCA is monitoring the situation, but will notify members, registrants, exhibitors and sponsors of any change to the program. We encourage you to register for the event; in the event that Chiro Texpo is cancelled, you will receive a refund per our refund policy. Telehealth Due to the coronavirus situation, the Texas Board of Chiropractic Examiners (TBCE) has informed Texas licensees that they may use telehealth under Texas Occupations Code Chapter 111. Licensees using telehealth must get informed consent from patients before providing telehealth services and must provide the same standard of care as with in-person visits. TBCE has not done any rulemaking on the subject and has no plans in the immediate future. TBCE recommends that any licensee who is thinking about using telehealth and who accepts insurance to contact the insurance companies to check if there any restrictions.
