Executive Director’s Message Well, 2020 is officially here – a brand new decade and a new beginning for Texas chiropractors. The 2010s were full of challenges for the profession, but they also included plenty of highlights. With the help of TCA members and supporters, we racked up several monumental legislative wins, including clarifying your right to diagnose, opening the door for you to operate an integrated practice with medical doctors and preventing insurance providers from discriminating against you simply for being a chiropractor. Over the past 10 years, TCA also significantly grew our membership, increased support among our corporate partners, hosted some fabulous events (including record-setting TCA Legislative Days in 2017 and 2019) and strengthened our relationships with our friends at Parker University, Texas Chiropractic College and other national organizations who have rallied around TCA. We all know there is still plenty of work ahead, like winning the nerve lawsuit under consideration by the Supreme Court of Texas, prevailing in another court battle over the right to perform chiropractic acupuncture and laying the ground work today for the 2020 elections and the 87th Texas Legislative Session around the corner in 2021. As Texans, we all know that everything is bigger and better in the Lone Star State, and that’s especially true of TCA members. As we kick off another year, I am asking you to add a few items to your New Year’s resolutions: Get more involved - To achieve our ambitious goals requires getting more chiropractors engaged at the district and state levels. TCA relies heavily on volunteers. Find out how you can put your time and talent to use to make TCA more successful. Recruit a new member - There are more than 6,000 licensed chiropractors in Texas and the majority aren’t TCA members. What does that mean? Lots of opportunities for growth. If every member signed up just one new member, membership would double and TCA would truly be a force to be reckoned with. Next time you attend a district meeting, Tour of Texas event or a conference like Chiro Texpo, don’t forget to invite a non-member to join you Contribute – For those of you who go to church, you may tithe on a weekly basis. Or, perhaps you donate to a charity or cause. Your hard-earned dollars can be used to strengthen your profession. By donating to the Chiropractic Development Initiative (CDI), you fund TCA’s advocacy, legal defense and public relations initiatives. When you contribute to the TCA Political Action Committee (TCA PAC), you allow TCA to support pro-chiropractic candidates for office in Texas, which is the avenue to legislative success. Whether you make a one-time donation or contribute monthly, every dollar counts. Want to get involved, sign up a member or contribute? Reach out to the TCA office at (512) 477-9292 or email us at info@chirotexas.org. We are excited about the future of TCA and our incredible profession. Thank you for joining us on this journey. Wishing you a fabulous 2020! Jeff Jenkins, CAE TCA Executive Director
