There is a trending concept among entrapreneurs called a “workcation.” A workcation is a term that has historically meant little more than clearing emails poolside with a glass of wine, documented on Instagram to boast about your #dedication. A fresh class of entrepreneurs, however, are redefining the term, and their updated concept is catching on. This brand of a workcation is a way to focus exclusively on big-picture problems, harness creativity, and walk away with a clear, fresh vision on how to better run your practice. Such a mixture of focused attention has genuine psychological and business value, according to experts. A workcation can boost creativity by immersing people into a different idea landscape of thoughts, emotions, perceptions and goals. Studies show that people who are more networked innovate more regularly, because they have access to all these different skills and knowledge possibilities. Another reason that participating in your professional association’s events and seminars can be so beneficial. The small-group effect of a workcation combined with inspiring scenery and limited distractions is a powerful combination that can yield beneficial results. For most a workcation is about combining simple ingredients: an isolated location, fellow leaders, and a willingness to think big. These participants should be people who inspire you, people you respect and admire. People who light up your brain. Agendas for workcations are varied, but include such topics as being prepared to discuss their three biggest challenges from the previous year and then focusing on ways to address each of those challenges is one. Digging into one another’s blind spots delivering hard-to-hear criticisms, but delivered as honest feedback from someone in similar circumstances who cares for you is another. The end result should be a return to work ready to take action. Taking feedback and potential solutions and incorporating them into your business as improvements in business functions, or as new goals or objectives, or as just a way to “do things better.” More than a vacation, more than a retreat, a workcation has the potential for being a business changing event. The TCA has long had a similar event. We call it our Leadership Conference. We just completed one that you can read about here. There are now entrapreneural professionals who specialize in organizing and booking workcations. Source: https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/335399
